A Call To Action By Haywood County Republicans
The Senate's silent filibuster serves as a blockade to moving forward on crucial legislation, without public debate and without transparency or accountability. President Trump and the majority of Republican senators are demanding a return to the traditional talking filibuster to end the socialist Democrats' obstruction of legislation, such as the SAVE Act, (to be addressed in detail in a following post) which is supported by an overwhelming majority of American citizens regardless of their political affiliation. The time has come for nuking the filibuster.
Originally, the filibuster was a "talking filibuster" that required senators to physically hold the floor, making their obstruction visible and accountable to the public. In the 1970s, the Senate adopted the "silent filibuster," which requires 60 votes to invoke cloture and end debate, effectively giving a minority of senators veto power over legislation. By contrast, the talking filibuster ends when senators stop debating, allowing bills to pass with a simple 51-vote majority.

The silent filibuster allows a minority to block legislation without public scrutiny. This lack of transparency erodes trust in the Senate as a deliberative body. When senators do not have to publicly defend their opposition to a bill, voters lose insight into the reasons for delays. Moreover, the 60-vote threshold leads to gridlock, preventing important bills from passing even when a clear majority supports them.
In response, President Trump has called for "nuking" the silent filibuster and returning to the traditional talking filibuster. Senate leader John Thune has defended the silent filibuster but appears to be reconsidering amid growing pressure. However, three key Republican senators—Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Thom Tillis of North Carolina—oppose eliminating the silent filibuster and the SAVE Act.

Returning to the talking filibuster and passing the SAVE Act would bring integrity to our elections and preserve the Senate’s role as a forum for debate. It would require senators to publicly justify their opposition to legislation under consideration, increasing accountability and transparency. It would also lower the 60-vote threshold to a simple majority, making it easier to pass legislation. Failing to act will ensure the SAVE Act fails to pass, continuing threats to the integrity of elections and the republic itself.
You can be certain that if the Democrats regain control of the Senate, they will immediately eliminate the filibuster, leading to nonstop impeachments and rapid, radical socialist legislative changes. To prevent this from happening and to protect the Senate’s legitimacy and the nation’s democratic processes, Senate Republicans must:
· Restore the talking filibuster and support the SAVE Act
· Demand open debate and public accountability on the Senate floor
· Reject the silent filibuster’s hidden obstruction tactics
· Unite behind reforms that strengthen free and fair elections
· Communicate clearly with voters about the importance of these changes
North Carolina Republicans have a golden opportunity to demonstrate genuine patriotism and commitment to the republic’s future by making ongoing phone calls to Senators John Thune and Thom Tillis, demanding an end to the silent filibuster.
A return to the talking filibuster would not only be a procedural change; it would also safeguard transparency, accountability, and democracy. This matter demands immediate attention.
