The True Meaning of Compassion

Christmas is a time of joy and gratitude, a season when we remember the birth of Jesus Christ and reflect on His love for all mankind. It is a moment to appreciate the love we share with our families and friends. Christmas is more than just a holiday; Christmas reminds us of God’s compassion, which is a deep, genuine compassion that is a cornerstone of Christian values. This compassion holds families and our Republic together, guiding us through difficult choices with love and care.
Yet, in today’s political landscape, not all Americans see compassion the way Christian conservatives do. Democrats claim to champion compassion, but their understanding and definition of compassion clash with the Christian perspective. Christian conservatives do approach compassion differently; their choices may seem harsh, but they are rooted in love.

Christian compassion is not about taking the easy path. It demands courage to make difficult decisions that protect and nurture the community. Genuine compassion means acting in ways that may not always feel comfortable or good but ultimately serve the greater good.
For example, Christian conservatives support law enforcement and justice because compassion includes protecting innocent lives. It is compassionate to hold criminals accountable, even when it is unpopular. Consider the tragic case of Iryna Zarutska, who was murdered on a Charlotte commuter train by a career criminal. Compassion for victims and their families means ensuring justice is served, not letting criminals avoid punishment.

Another area where views on compassion sharply differ is immigration. Democrats advocate for open borders and policies that allow millions of illegal immigrants to enter the country. They claim this is compassionate, neglecting the horrific impact on American citizens.
Many families face job losses, overwhelmed health care systems, overcrowded schools, and rising crime in their neighborhoods. The rapid cultural changes leave communities feeling abandoned and unheard. Christian conservatives argue that compassion includes protecting citizens and maintaining order. Allowing 20 million illegal immigrants to remain unchecked is not compassion; it is neglecting the needs of those who live and work here legally.
The issue of unaccompanied minors crossing the border is also critical. The government lost track of about 180,000 children, many of whom may have fallen victim to trafficking. Compassion demands protecting vulnerable children, but that requires responsible policies, not open-door approaches that put them at risk.

Healthcare is another battleground where compassion is in question. Democrats promote government-run healthcare as a way to make care affordable. Yet, 15 years after Obamacare’s introduction, premiums have risen every year, and subsidies have mainly benefited insurance companies rather than patients.
Christian conservatives believe compassion means seeking practical solutions that improve care and lower costs without expanding government control. Compassion is about helping people get the care they need, not forcing one-size-fits-all policies that often fail.

The COVID-19 pandemic raised questions about compassion and government mandates. Democrats pushed vaccine mandates, claiming they protected public health. But many Americans experienced adverse effects, including thousands of deaths, and the vaccines did not stop the virus.
Christian conservatives emphasize compassion by respecting personal freedom and informed choice. Compassion means caring for others while honoring individual rights, not forcing medical decisions that may cause harm.

Compassion also extends to the unborn. The Christian view holds that every life is sacred, and abortion contradicts this fundamental belief. Democrats often support abortion rights, framing it as compassion for women’s choices. But true compassion respects the life of the unborn child and seeks alternatives that protect both mother and baby.
Socialist ideologies promoted by some Democrats have led to suffering and millions of deaths worldwide. Christian conservatives warn against these policies, advocating for freedom, responsibility, and respect for human dignity as the foundation of compassion.

Christian conservatives who stand by these principles often face harsh criticism. They are labeled hateful, racist, misogynistic, and bigoted. Some Democrats act out of ignorance or malice, but many operate on emotion rather than truth.
It is challenging to uphold Christian values in today’s political climate. Yet, it is essential to hold fast to these principles, be bold in making hard choices, and trust that truth will guide us. Compassion is not weakness; it is strength rooted in love and faith.

This Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let us remember the true meaning of compassion. It is a love that requires courage, honesty, and sacrifice. It is a love that protects families, communities, and our Republic.
May this season inspire us to live with compassion that reflects God’s heart. Let us be grateful for the blessings we share and committed to making choices that honor the values Jesus taught us.

Merry Christmas to family, friends, and all readers of “The Informed Citizen.” May your holiday be filled with peace, love, and the courage to stand for truth.
