American citizenship represents a blend of dreams, hope, and responsibility. It’s not just a legal status; it’s a life filled with unique experiences. This blog post explores what it means to embrace this vibrant identity and introduces Haywood County residents to “The Informed Citizen.” An initiative organized by local Christian Conservatives to help Haywood County citizens stay informed and engaged to understand better what it means to be an American citizen.

One of the most significant aspects of being an American citizen is the extensive rights granted to individuals. These rights, protected by the U.S. Constitution, empower Haywood County citizens, as well as every legal citizen in America, to enjoy their freedoms without fear of discrimination or repression.
For example, American citizens have the right to free speech. This fundamental freedom allows everyone to express their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs openly. An informed populace is essential for the survival of a Constitutional Republic such as the United States, and “The Informed Citizen” is a group of patriotic Haywood County patriotic American citizens whose sole purpose is to provide the information every Haywood County citizen needs to make sound decisions regarding their health, the education of their children, the governance of their cities and the county, and most importantly making informed decisions at the ballot box.

Moreover, citizens have the right to peaceful assembly. This means individuals can gather to learn about what our government, at all levels, is or is not doing in the interest of Haywood County residents. It means that we can express our opinions, advocate for change, and collaborate for justice. "The Informed Citizen" group was established to provide a forum where citizens can assemble peacefully to learn and exchange information that impacts their everyday lives.
While rights are essential, American citizenship also entails responsibilities that individuals must uphold. These duties are vital for preserving the foundation of our Constitutional Republic.

One primary responsibility is civic participation. "The Informed Citizen" encourages citizens to become engaged in the governance of our Haywood County and our nation by actively volunteering and attending local meetings, such as the Haywood County Board of Commissioners, the Haywood County Board of Elections, the Haywood County School Board, and as well as the monthly meetings held by the Waynesville, Canton, Maggie Valley, and Clyde General Assemblies, to understand the actions being taken by these entities. Active involvement not only fosters a sense of belonging but also ensures that every voice is heard, thereby creating a more representative decision-making process.
Additionally, citizens should stay informed about current events and government processes.

A well-informed citizenry is crucial for a functioning republic. This is the role that “The Informed Citizen” intends to play on your behalf through this Blog site as well as through monthly forums at which guest speakers, who have expertise in areas of most importance to the Haywood County citizen, will be present. Following a guest speaker's presentation, attendees will be allowed to interact with that individual and ask questions of the speaker

Embracing American citizenship goes beyond individual rights and duties; it shapes American society itself. Citizens contribute to the nation by participating in the Representative Republic process and advocating for change. This active engagement fosters dynamic communities that reflect shared values and aspirations. History shows that engaged citizens can drive transformative movements that pave the way for positive change.
“The Informed Citizen” group is working to create a positive environment and forum where Haywood County citizens with shared values, goals, morals, and beliefs can gather peacefully to learn, become informed, and socialize with like-minded individuals.
This blog site, “The Informed Citizen,” will strive to keep you continuously updated on the educational, health, and political issues that most affect your life and the lives of your family.
To this end, along with this Blog site, “The Informed Citizen” also has a website (americaninsanity.org) where you can find updates regarding the aforementioned issues and concerns. It also provides information about when and where the “The Informed Citizen” group will hold their monthly forums, as well as who is scheduled as the guest speaker.
The dates and locations of upcoming forums are still being negotiated. As soon as this information becomes available, it will be published on both this blog site and our website, americaninsanity.org. Please take a moment and visit the website.
