In recent weeks, I have observed a surge of responses to my earlier post concerning the Haywood County Republican Party's disappointing efforts in candidate recruitment. The situation is alarming, as it appears we currently have only one Republican candidate vying for several municipal positions. In stark contrast, the Democrats are presenting numerous candidates for these roles. This imbalance raises critical questions: What is happening within our party, and why does it seem to be heading toward self-destruction?
The Current Situation: A Snapshot
In Haywood County, numerous municipal positions are up for grabs; yet, to date, the Republican Party has only one individual who has filed as a candidate for one of the Maggie Valley Alderman positions. This significant discrepancy compared to the Democrats, who are putting forth eight candidates, cannot be overlooked.

Candidates are crucial to any democratic process. Without them, voter choice diminishes, and our chances of winning elections plummet. The Haywood County Republican Party appears to be getting outmaneuvered, projecting an image of exclusion and a lack of support for its members.
It is perplexing that a party with so much potential is struggling to compete effectively. This situation raises valid concerns about the lack of strategy, organization, and perhaps misplaced priorities.
Observing from the Outside

A recent response from a subscriber stated that: "As a member of the Republican party, witnessing this chaos from the sidelines is disheartening. The current leadership appears to be more focused on internal issues than on cultivating a diverse and capable group of candidates. Unfortunately, this only serves to heighten tensions within the party.
I am feeling increasingly frustrated and disconnected from the current efforts of the Haywood County Republican Party. Instead of unifying under a shared vision, the party leadership seems to be fixated on its control of the Haywood County Republican Party, driving many engaged members away."
When potential candidates and dedicated voters start questioning the party's direction, we risk long-term damage to our electoral viability. The stakes are high, and we must consider the potential consequences of our current approach.
The Importance of Candidate Recruitment

Candidate recruitment is vital for any political party's success. It generates momentum, energizes the base, and builds community support. Without strong candidates, the Haywood County Republican Party risks becoming irrelevant in local governance, and this is not just an exaggeration—it's a reality already surfacing in Haywood County.
If the Haywood County Republican Party is to succeed in the upcoming elections, a change in strategy is not merely advisable; it is essential. The party must actively identify and cultivate candidates. For instance, organizations like the Republican National Committee (RNC) have successfully implemented outreach programs that increased the number of viable candidates by 30% in several key states last election cycle. The Haywood County Republican Party could learn from such strategies.

What can we do to address the recruitment crisis? First and foremost, we should step back and evaluate what it means to be Republican in Haywood County. Moreover, outreach efforts must be at the top of the agenda. It's not enough to field candidates; we need an approach that aligns with community values. This means identifying individuals who are passionate about public service and eager to represent the voices of the people.
Engaging the Base

Collaboration should extend beyond the leadership realm; grassroots efforts are equally important. Involving our base in meaningful discussions will build a sense of ownership and investment in the party. By actively seeking community input, the Haywood County Republican Party can uncover emerging leaders who may consider running for office.
It's crucial to empower local county Republican groups to take a proactive role in candidate recruitment. The party should provide resources for education, training, and mentorship to potential candidates who may not have previously considered running.
Moving Toward a Stronger Future
The Haywood County GOP must take decisive action to shift its course away from the current path of dysfunction. Now is the time to break free from self-sabotage and focus on strategies that promote growth.

For anyone looking in from the outside, the ongoing turmoil makes them hesitant to engage with the party beyond casting their vote. However, I believe we can foster a collaborative Haywood County Republican Party to prevent future losses and cultivate a robust political landscape in our county. Changing our approach to candidate recruitment is not just beneficial—it is vital.
Together We Thrive
In closing, the Haywood County Republican Party must urgently address its internal hurdles surrounding candidate recruitment if it wishes to remain a key player in local governance.
Reaching out to potential candidates, building community relationships, and encouraging involvement are critical steps toward rebuilding our party.
Our party's future relies on our ability to work toward a common goal—an empowered Haywood County Republican party that represents our values and interests in Haywood County and beyond.
This is not just about politics. It’s about our community, our progress, and our future.

TERRY RAMEY IS THE ONLY COMMISSIONER I WILL VOTE FOR IN 2026
The Haywood County Commissioners (with the exception of Terry Ramey ) Are Tax and Spend Commies who are only interested in one thing lining their pockets with other folks money, getting kickbacks, and buying property off the courthouse steps. It looks to me like theses Criminal Fools are running a Racketeering scam. What Say You? Why not do a Story on this ?? Plus the Actions from the local party Come from the Top Down lead by the Crooked Progressive Establishment crooked Lawyers who head the NCGOP ... As I have told you before the Right Wing and the Left Wing belong to the Same Bird Stop supporting the Rinos ... What you allow is what will continue !!!
Guest , In my 67yrs it is the Democrats and Rhino Republicans that have destroyed and gotten this country to where it is now. Go back to the basics of what this country was founded on. The "Constitution" as written. God the Bible "Ten Commandments." Smaller Government. It's common sense. Tell the truth. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Our current Haywood GOP has said that they don't want to be too conservative, too Christian, or be identified as the anti-vax party.........They are running off good solid Republicans with this attitude.....and it will not serve our county well.......
It is possible that potential candidates look at the currently elected officials, like the Haywood County Commissioners, and say the Commissioners are all Republicans so there is no need to run. What needs to be said out loud and often, is that 4 of the 5 current Commissioners are absolute RINO's who ALWAYS vote in lockstep with the Democrat Administration. They seem to NOT represent their constituents by voting with the Democrats on every proposed expenditure and project that will lead ALWAYS to higher property taxes. Now, why do you suppose, as good conservative Republicans, they would do such a thing? If we care about Haywood County, native born or transplant, we need to ask ourselves that question. Then we…
