The North Carolina Conservative Counterrevolution

The political landscape in the United States is undergoing a significant shift. Conservative movements are gaining momentum, pushing back against liberal policies that have overreached, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This conservative counterrevolution is not just a reaction but a strategic effort to reclaim fundamental rights and reshape governance. North Carolina stands as a prime example of this shift, showing how conservative values are influencing state politics and challenging long-standing socialist-liberal dominance.

The pandemic exposed deep divisions in how government balances public health and individual freedoms. Many socialist-liberals, particularly in blue states, imposed strict restrictions that limited Americans' rights to assemble, speak freely, worship, travel, work, and make personal health decisions. These measures, often justified as necessary for safety, sparked widespread frustration and accusations of government overreach.

In North Carolina, leaders like Governor Roy Cooper faced criticism for their handling of the crisis. Conservatives argue that these policies were less about health and more about control, eroding trust in government and fueling a desire for change. The 2020 election further intensified these concerns, with allegations of election irregularities casting doubt on the electroal process. This period galvanized conservatives to push back harder, determined to protect our God-given rights and ensure fair elections in the future.

The leadership model evident in many blue states and in countries governed by socialist governments reveals troubling trends. States like California, New York, and Illinois, along with the European Union, share common challenges:

  • High taxes that drive away wealthy residents and businesses

  • Out-of-control spending leading to massive debt

  • Rising crime rates that threaten public safety

  • Open borders policies that strain resources and security

  • Weak economies struggling to recover and grow

  • Corrupt elections undermining voter confidence

  • Fraud-ridden public programs wasting taxpayer money

California, once a beacon of liberal success, now faces an exodus of billionaires and entrepreneurs fleeing high taxes and crime. The state’s election laws allow ballots without voter ID or proof of citizenship and permit ballot harvesting, raising serious questions about election integrity. Across the Atlantic, the European Union teeters on the edge after decades of socialist policies that have failed to deliver sustainable prosperity.

This pattern of tax-and-spend has morphed into tax-and-steal, with socialist manipulating elections, public assistance, and NGO funds to maintain power. These issues highlight why conservative states like North Carolina are becoming models for those seeking a different path.

North Carolina’s political history is unique. The Democrat Party controlled the state for nearly two centuries, dating back to Andrew Jackson’s 1828 election. During that period, Republicans held very few key offices:

  • 3 Republican governors

  • 3 Republican lieutenant governors

  • 1 Republican attorney general

It wasn’t until 2011 that Republicans gained control of the North Carolina General Assembly. Since 2017, they have held veto-proof supermajorities three times, though today they remain just one seat short in the North Carolina House. Despite Democrats still holding half of the Council of State offices, including the governorship, the state trends conservative.

This shift is partly due to conservatives leaving the Democratic Party since the late 1960s. The party’s move toward more extreme left-wing policies and alignment with Marxist ideas has alienated moderates and traditional voters. In places like Haywood County, this battle for control is very real, reflecting the broader struggle across the state.

The conservative counterrevolution in North Carolina and similar states signals a broader national trend. Voters are demanding:

  • Protection of constitutional rights

  • Transparent and secure elections

  • Responsible fiscal policies

  • Strong law enforcement and public safety

  • Immigration policies that prioritize security and legal processes

States like North Carolina are proving that conservative governance can deliver economic growth, lower taxes, and safer communities. This success challenges the narrative that liberal policies are the only way forward and offers a blueprint for other states and regions.

The fight for control is far from over. Conservatives must continue to engage voters, promote clear policies, and hold leaders accountable. The lessons from North Carolina show that change is possible when citizens stand firm on principles and demand better from their government.
