Help Foster Children Feel Valued with Suitcase Donations

Haywood County - Local Foster-Children Need Your Help!

Every year, countless foster children face the challenge of moving from one home to another. These moves are sudden and stressful. What makes this even harder is how these children carry their belongings, usually in trash bags, shopping bags, or by hand. This simple fact adds to their feelings of instability and embarrassment. The Haywood County Republican Party has recognized this problem and is taking action to help.

Imagine having to pack all your personal items in a plastic bag every time you move. For foster children, this is a reality. These kids already deal with uncertainty and emotional hardship. Carrying their belongings in trash bags only adds to their sense of being unwanted or overlooked. A suitcase is more than just a container; it is a symbol of dignity and care.

Providing suitcases helps these children feel valued and respected. It gives them a sense of normalcy during difficult transitions. When a child receives a suitcase filled with useful and comforting items, it conveys that someone cares about their well-being.

The Haywood County Republican Party is hosting a Foster Care Donation Drive to help these local foster children transition from one foster home to another, just a little easier. They are referring to this drive as "Suitcase Donation Drive" because they are requesting county residents to donate new suitcases, of any size, that these foster children can pack their few belongings. Although they are referring the drive as "Suitcase,) duffel bags, and back packs would all be equally welcomed.

To make your donation even more special, pleae consider packing these units with items such as Hygiene Products; Paper Towels, Toilet Paper, Underwear (kids & Teens), shoes, or even household products.

They are asking donors to drop-off their donations at the Haywood County Republican Party Headquarters located at 297 North Haywood Street, Waynesville. Donations for these foster children will be accepted every Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Saturdays falling on May 2, 16, 23, and 30th between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.

The goal is to collect suitcases, duffal bags, ect., that will be hand decorated by Haywood County Republican volunteers, filled with essential items and small comforts, and given to these foster children.
