Dedicated Public Servant With Hands-On Experience In Tax Collections

My name is Emily Sapp, and I’m running to be your next Republican Haywood County First Tax Collector. I am a dedicated public servant with five years of hands-on experience with the Haywood County Tax Collector's office. I have, and always will, proudly serve the people of our county with honesty, fairness, and empathy.

Over those five years, I was a key member of the team that achieved the highest tax collection rate in the county's history. A milestone that has strengthened Haywood County public services and supported improvements throughout Haywood County. As a key member of that team, I have worked with our county elected officials to ensure that your taxpayer dollars were put to work efficiently and effectively.

It is my pledge to each of you that I will continue working with our team to meet and surpass the high standards that you, the taxpayer, expect of your elected officials, and the high standards that we, the employees of the Tax Collector's office, have set for ourselves.

It is crucial that, when the newly elected Tax Collector is sworn in, the transition be seamless, as the individual will be assuming the position during the office’s busiest time of year. For this reason, continuity will be critical because time is money (YOUR tax money), and it will be time-consuming and inefficient to train someone new to the ins and outs of the Tax Collector's duties and the office staff's responsibilities during this period. Therefore, it is crucial that county residents elect someone ready to go to work on day one, not someone requiring training.

I believe that strong communities are built on trust, accessibility, and fairness. I know that every taxpayer deserves clear communication, dependable service, and the confidence that their tax office is working for them—not against them. That’s why I have made it my mission to foster an environment where residents feel valued, respected, and heard. I will never take a dismissive tone toward the people I serve. Yes, taxes must be paid; that is the law, and accountability matters. But a Tax Collector also has a duty to carry out that law with professionalism, sound judgment, and an understanding that real families sometimes face real hardships.

Rooted deeply in the community I’ve grown to love over the last 20 years, I am committed to continuing my service to Haywood County residents as your next Tax Collector with the same dedication that I have demonstrated throughout my career. I understand the responsibility that comes with managing public funds—your hard-earned tax dollars—and I am determined to earn and keep the trust of every taxpayer.

With proven experience, a record of results, and a genuine commitment to the community’s well-being, I am ready to serve as Haywood County’s next Tax Collector. I am asking for your vote and would be honored to receive it in the upcoming Republican primary election.
