The Biden administration is attempting to gain control over voting outcomes through his Executive Order 14019. The Executive Order calls for each federal agency to submit to Domestic Policy Advisor Susan Rice a strategic plan outlining the ways that the agency can promote voter registration and voter participation. Those targeted federal Departments include GSA, Health and Human Services; Interior; Education; Veterans Affairs; and Housing and Urban Development.
Many congressional Republicans, as well as government watchdog groups, are expressing concern about federal agencies’ engaging in partisan political activity in violation of laws such as the Hatch Act.
Despite numerous Freedom of Information requests by these government watchdog groups and Republican congressional members, Biden continues to shield, from the public, its strategic plan for implementing his Executive Order 14019 which requires federal departments and agencies to develop procedures to turn out the vote.
The Biden Administration has refused to release any details regarding the execution of Executive Order 14019 citing “presidential communications and deliberative process privilege.” Newly released emails, however, demonstrates that the focus of the White House and various government departments is on registering voters and getting them out.
Emails between White House officials and GSA officials, obtained by The Daily Signal through a FOIA request, make several references to the strategic plan or to “strategic planning” to boost voter turnout.
Biden’s Justice Department also has refused to release its strategic plan, citing “presidential privilege.” The Foundation for Government Accountability, a watchdog group, sued the Justice Department in federal court in Florida to obtain its strategic plan to register voters and get out the vote.
As Democrats push to expand the federal government’s oversight of elections, President Joe Biden has named a former Justice Department official and a Loyola law school professor, to be the White House adviser on voting issues as Democrats seek to expand the federal government’s role in election administration.
