A Christmas Message to Haywood County & America
Christmas is a time of joy and gratitude, a moment to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and reflect on the blessings in our lives. This year, as we gather with loved ones, we also look back on the dramatic changes America has experienced in 2025. After a long period marked by uncertainty and hardship, the nation is showing signs of renewed strength and hope. The challenges of the past few years, including the COVID pandemic and political turmoil, have tested the country deeply. Yet, America’s resilience shines through, guided by faith and determination.
Just a year ago, America faced a crisis unlike any in recent memory. The economy was struggling under the weight of soaring inflation, which had reached a cumulative 21% increase. Job growth favored foreign-born workers, leaving many native-born Americans behind. Social and cultural issues dominated headlines, with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies influencing every sector. Transgender topics took center stage, often overshadowing other pressing concerns. Women faced challenges in sports and family life, while freedom of speech came under attack through cancel culture and harsh penalties for protesters.
Crime rates surged as criminals were released, and the federal government appeared to be working against its own citizens. The nation seemed to be heading toward conflict on a global scale, with fears of World War III looming. This was not the America many remembered growing up in—a country once known for opportunity, freedom, and strong communities.

The 2024 election marked a decisive moment. Donald J. Trump’s return to the presidency brought a swift and significant shift in policy and national direction. His administration focused on restoring economic stability, securing borders, and reaffirming traditional values. The results of these efforts are clear and measurable.
Inflation dropped dramatically to 2.7%, a remarkable turnaround from the previous 21% increase. Real wages grew faster than inflation, reaching levels not seen since 1965. This means that American workers are not only earning more but also enjoying greater purchasing power. The administration created 671,000 new non-government jobs, all filled by native-born workers, reversing the trend of job growth favoring foreign-born labor.
Tax policy also changed, with the largest tax cut in U.S. history providing relief to families and businesses. Trade agreements were renegotiated to bring manufacturing and industry back to American soil. The country collected over $236 billion in tariffs, boosting government revenue and protecting domestic producers. Foreign investments poured in, totaling $2.1 trillion, signaling renewed confidence in the U.S. economy.

America reclaimed its position as the world’s leading oil exporter, ending dependence on foreign energy sources. Illegal immigration was curtailed, with over 2.3 million deportations enforcing border security. The administration ended at least eight foreign wars, focusing on national interests and reducing military entanglements abroad.
NATO partners began paying their fair share of defense costs, easing the financial burden on the U.S. military. Domestically, the military was deployed to reduce crime and stop anti-ICE riots, restoring order in communities affected by unrest.

Several controversial policies were reversed or eliminated. The Department of Education was significantly reduced, and USAID was closed, reflecting a shift away from expansive federal programs. Green energy subsidies ended, signaling a move toward energy independence rather than government-driven initiatives.
DEI programs were eliminated from government and many institutions, reflecting a change in focus toward merit and unity. Planned Parenthood and public broadcasting entities like NPR and PBS were defunded, redirecting resources to other priorities.
One of the most notable actions was the pardon of over 1,500 individuals wrongfully imprisoned for their involvement in the January 6 events, addressing concerns about justice and fairness.

The transformation during 2025 shows a country reclaiming its identity and strength. Economic indicators point to growth and opportunity for native-born Americans. Security measures aim to protect citizens and restore trust in government institutions. Social policies reflect a return to traditional values and a focus on individual rights.
This period of change is not without controversy or challenges, but the direction is clear. America is waking up from a difficult chapter and moving toward a future shaped by resilience, faith, and a renewed sense of purpose.

As we celebrate this Christmas season, it is worth remembering that the nation’s journey is ongoing. The progress made during 2025 offers hope but also calls for continued vigilance and engagement. Citizens can contribute by staying informed, participating in their communities, and supporting policies that promote growth and unity.
The story of America’s reawakening is a reminder that even in the darkest times, renewal is possible. With faith and determination, the country can build a future that honors its past and embraces new opportunities.
