The Unraveling of Accountability in Congress

The actions and hostile comments of many Democrat representatives over the years, but particularly in recent months, have sparked intense controversy. From Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's outright dismissal of Charlie Kirk to Delia Ramirez's controversial statements about her loyalty to Guatemala, these incidents make us question whether accountability truly exists in Congress. Are Democrats operating under different rules than Republicans, or is there a real expectation for all lawmakers to be held responsible?
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently made headlines by taking to the floor of the House of Representatives to justify her “NO” vote against a resolution honoring Charlie Kirk's life. Her reasoning, which she stated was that "His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans," highlights a concerning pattern among socialist-Democrat lawmakers: public criticism of Christian conservatives and their beliefs.
Socialist-Democrat lawmakers’ firm stance highlights a widening divide in American politics. This attitude alienates constituents who admired and appreciated Kirk's contributions to political discussion and debate. Americans firmly believe in respecting different viewpoints.
Delia Ramirez

Adding to the growing controversy, Democrat Representative Delia Ramirez publicly expressed her loyalty to Guatemala over the United States, saying she is "Guatemalan first and American second" during a recent visit to that country. Such comments sparked significant backlash as they raised concerns about her commitment to American values and unity.
In an era where national unity is vital for political stability, statements like Ramirez’s create division. Recent polls show that the public believes loyalty to the U.S. is essential for all elected and non-elected public officials. By placing her allegiance to another country, she erodes public trust in her ability to serve her constituents and America.
LaMonica McIver

Democratic Representative LaMonica McIver's involvement in a legal scandal further complicates the story of accountability in Congress. She faces charges for assaulting law enforcement officers outside an ICE detention center. This behavior raises serious questions about her judgment and her ability to serve in a position of authority.
Representatives like McIver are expected to serve as role models for the public. Engaging in criminal activities not only damages personal reputations but also negatively reflects on Congress overall. The effects of McIver's actions are significant; they add to an already skeptical outlook on politicians, where, according to a 2023 Gallup poll, only 24% of Americans trust Congress.
Jasmine Crockett

Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett sparked controversy with her comments about Charlie Kirk. She said, "What I do know for sure is that Charlie was someone who once said, ‘Guns save lives,’ after a school shooting. He was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd." Crockett's remarks, which focus on contentious issues, indicate a preference for divisive talk over promoting dialogue.
This kind of rhetoric does little to heal divisions and contributes to the polarization that currently afflicts American politics.
Ilhan Omar

One of the most concerning examples involved Democrat Representative Ilhan Omar. During a resolution to honor Charlie Kirk, she publicly accused him of being a liar and a pretender who discriminates against Blacks. This conduct disrespects the legislative process and raises questions about her ability to represent all constituents.
Mockery, especially from elected officials, undermines the dignity expected in Congress. Such behavior further drives away Americans who want to believe that their representatives can maintain civility despite political differences.
The Lack of Accountability for Democrats
These actions raise an essential question: Where are Republican representatives in holding their Democrat counterparts accountable? The constant lack of censure for such behaviors by the Republican members of Congress suggests a growing concern that some members, socialist Democrats, of Congress feel immune to repercussions. This is certainly not the case for Republican members of Congress who are consistently held to the fullest account possible by the socialist Democrats and their RINO colleagues.
Before the motion to honor Kirk, Republican Representative Nancy Mace introduced a censure motion against Omar, claiming her actions disrespected Kirk after his assassination. Unfortunately, Mace's effort failed because four RINO Republican representatives voted with Democrats. This lack of holding Democrats, who demonstrate unethical behavior, accountable by our Republican representatives only deepens disillusionment with our Republican representatives, who, unlike the Democrat members of Congress, cannot seem to find it within themselves to unite to do the will of those who elected them.
This lack of unity among Republican members of Congress is not an isolated or rare occurrence. Republican members of Congress have a long history of siding with the socialist Democrats on critical issues that do not align with the will of conservative Republicans who elected them.
The Need for Accountability in Congress

These events highlight the urgent need for equal accountability in Congress. When Democrat members behave in ways that undermine democratic principles and respectful discussion, Republican members must intervene. Failing to censure such actions sends a message that this behavior by Democrat members of Congress is acceptable, further eroding public trust in our elected Republican officials.
If Congress fails to establish accountability mechanisms, it sets a troubling precedent for future actions. Americans believe elected officials should face consequences for unethical conduct, highlighting the need for a more responsible legislative body.
The actions of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Delia Ramirez, LaMonica McIver, Jasmine Crockett, Ilhan Omar, and so many other socialist Democrats raise essential questions about accountability in Congress. These lawmakers’ tendencies toward divisive rhetoric and behavior call for closer examination by their colleagues and the public.

Ultimately, the lack of accountability signals a dangerous course that will lead to further erosion of trust between constituents and their elected officials. If Congress wants to restore faith among the American people, it must prioritize accountability and commit to creating an environment that encourages respectful dialogue and inclusivity. Until Republican members of Congress find the courage to stand against hostile and dangerous behavior on the part of their socialist-Democrat colleagues, the rhetoric will never stop, and more political icons will lose their lives as a result.
Members of Congress must begin to focus on their duty to serve all Americans—only then can Congress hope to heal and work toward a more united and productive future for all American Citizens.

Rest in Peace, Charlie Kirk.

Unffortunately, many of those elected, on both sides ofthe aisle, do not feel any sense of accounttability to those who elected them. That has led to the ony accountability is to each other, and to what we have come to know them as, the UniParty. The UniParty stands for whatever allows them to keep their position in government, so that they may continue to increase their own personal wealth and perceived power.
This occurs on all levels of government, and is especially true in Haywood County, as evidenced post Helene when the county government, both elected and appointed, chose to enrich themselves first, and help their constituents secondly, until a few stepped forward to expose this.
