On September 20th, the Haywood County community gathered with a mix of sadness and respect to honor the life of Charlie Kirk, an important figure in American Christian conservatism. The “Charlie Kirk Memorial Freedom Ride” was organized by the Haywood County movement, “The Informed Citizen,” and the Haywood County Republican Party. This event remembered Kirk’s contributions while also rallying those who share his vision for America.
The “Charlie Kirk Memorial Freedom Ride” moved along Waynesville’s Main Street in front of the old courthouse. The convoy was scheduled to pass in front of the courthouse right when the anti-American socialist Democrat protest group "Hands Off Haywood" was rallying against President Trump’s policies on illegal immigration, DEI, and crime.

Unfortunately, this gathering revealed the absence of key local political figures. Haywood County Board of Commissioners Chairman Kevin Ensley, along with commissioners Brandon Rodgers, Tommy Long, and Jennifer Best, were noticeably missing. Terry Ramey was the only county commissioner present who took the time to join the Charlie Kirk Freedom Ride to honor Kirk’s legacy.
It was further concerning that NC House District 118 Republican Representative Mark Pless, who represents Haywood County, was also absent from this important event. Additionally, Vice Chair Vickie Reece and Treasurer Kim Genova of the Haywood County Republican Party did not attend, despite receiving invitations to join their fellow Republican constituents.
Their absence raises the question: What does it say about their commitment to the values Charlie Kirk supported? In my opinion, this lack of attendance from these key figures indicates a disconnect between local leadership and the grassroots movement that seeks to uphold the principles Kirk supported. This event was more than just a memorial; it was an opportunity for the community to come together, reflect on shared beliefs, and reaffirm their dedication to the core values of Christian conservatism.
The Significance of Charlie Kirk's Legacy

Charlie Kirk has played a key role in shaping American Christian conservatism. As the founder of Turning Point USA, he encouraged many young people to get involved in politics and defend conservative values. His support for free speech, limited government, and traditional family values strikes a chord with many constituents in Haywood County.
The “Charlie Kirk Memorial Freedom Ride” aimed to honor this legacy while inspiring attendees to carry on Kirk's work. By coming together as a community, participants sought to reaffirm their dedication to the ideals Kirk stood for. The lack of prominent political figures at the event not only diminished the tribute but also sent a message about their priorities and level of engagement with the people they represent.
The Haywood County Republican Party and “The Informed Citizen” movement represent a significant part of the community eager to support conservative values. Elected officials have a duty to listen to their constituents and attend events that reflect the community's values. By taking part in gatherings like the “Charlie Kirk Memorial Freedom Ride,” leaders can show their commitment to their principles and build stronger connections with the people they serve.
Additionally, attending such events can give officials important insights into the concerns and hopes of their constituents. Engaging genuinely with the community helps build connections between leadership and grassroots movements, resulting in more effective governance. When influential community leaders skip these gatherings, it can create disillusionment among constituents. Many might feel their voices are ignored or that their values are not represented, which can lead to disengagement and apathy.
Local leaders should recognize the importance of attending community events. Their presence not only honors the legacies of influential figures like Charlie Kirk but also strengthens their dedication to the principles valued by their constituents.
Reflecting on Priorities
The “Charlie Kirk Memorial Freedom Ride” served as a powerful reminder of one person's influence on a movement and community. While key figures were missing, the event emphasized the loyalty of those who chose to honor Kirk’s legacy. Participating in events that resonate with supporters strengthens bonds and reaffirms commitment to shared principles.
By honoring Charlie Kirk, the community celebrated his life and called for renewed dedication to Christian conservative principles. This serves as a call to action to elect leaders who will engage with their constituents and uphold the values that bring them together.

wow!! that is interesting points!!
Fantastic article and very valid points! If our elected officials want us to show up for them, then they need to do the same for us!!!!!! I am sick of the RINOs we currently have in office and can't wait until we can replace them all!
Well Le you’re back to hateful criticism. You have no idea why some did not attend. Prior commitments, health issues, etc. One I know for sure. Kim Genova was out town at a wedding. You owe her and many others (Michael, Vickie and Ted) an apology. I didn’t see you at the HCGOP Town Hall last week. Will any of your group support the HCGOP fundraising dinner on October 13? Please contact Michael for tickets. Be a Charlie Kirk.
