Empowering Haywood County Voters
As the mid-term primary elections approach in Haywood County, voters face a crucial responsibility. Choosing leaders who will truly represent the community. This requires more than relying on familiar names or past titles. It demands careful consideration of the qualities that matter most: honor, integrity, passion, and a genuine commitment to serve the people.

Why Traditional Qualifications Fall Short
Many voters tend to focus on a candidate’s name recognition because of family ties or relationships, whether they were born in Haywood County or have held office before. Campaign funding often sways opinions as well. Yet, none of these factors guarantees effective leadership. A candidate’s ability to lead with honor and integrity does not depend on their past titles, experience, family ties, or financial backing.
For example, a candidate with a large campaign fund might prioritize special interests over community needs. Similarly, someone who has been serving for several years may be stuck in old ways that no longer serve the county’s best interests. Voters should look beyond these surface-level qualifications to find leaders who will put the community first.
What to Look for in a Candidate

When evaluating candidates, focus on qualities that reveal their steadfast dedication to serving Haywood County:
Passion for the Community
Candidates who show genuine enthusiasm for improving residents' lives work harder to understand local issues and find solutions.
Determination to Serve
Leadership requires passion and persistence. Look for those who demonstrate a willingness to face challenges head-on and advocate for the people, even when it’s difficult and uncomfortable.
Commitment to Transparency
Leaders who communicate openly and honestly build trust. Transparency about their plans and decisions is a key sign of integrity.
Focus on People Over Politics
Some candidates prioritize personal gain or political power over their constituents' will. Choose those who put the community’s needs above their own ambitions.
Respect for Diverse Voices
Effective leaders listen to all residents, including those with differing opinions. This respect fosters unity and better decision-making.
Recognizing the Elitist Approach

In today’s political environment, whether in small towns such as those in Haywood County or in large metropolitan cities, a small group of elitists will claim to serve the public while actually promoting their elitist agenda. These individuals may use polished speeches, promises, and even intimidation to mask their true intentions. This is as true in Haywood County politics as it is on the national scene, and voters must be alert to this pattern.
For instance, a candidate will say they represent the people but consistently support policies that benefit themselves and/or a select few. This approach undermines democracy and weakens community trust. Rejecting elitism means choosing leaders who prioritize fairness and equal representation.
Practical Steps for Voters

To make informed choices in the upcoming primary, voters can take these actions:
Research Beyond Headlines
Read candidate statements, attend "Meet & Greet" forums, and review their records and level of community involvement.
Ask Specific Questions
In candidate "Meet & Greet" meetings or debates, ask about their plans for key issues such as education, infrastructure, and public safety.
Talk to Neighbors and Community Groups
Gather diverse opinions to understand how different parts of the county perceive candidates.
Evaluate Actions, Not Just Words
Look for evidence of past community service or initiatives that show a candidate’s passion and commitment to the residents of Haywood County.
Avoid Being Swayed by Money or Popularity
Focus on who will serve with honor and integrity, not who spends the most or has the biggest name.
Examples of Leadership That Matters

Consider a candidate who regularly attends Party meetings, willingly volunteers in support of their communities, and listens carefully to residents’ concerns. This person may not have held office before or have a large campaign budget, but their actions demonstrate dedication. Given the current makeup of the Haywood County Board of Commissioners, only one incumbent, in my opinion, fits this description. Terry Ramey!

Another example is a newcomer who proposes clear, practical solutions to improve the lives of Haywood County residents, support quality education and school infrastructure, and advocate for the public services county residents want. Their fresh perspective and willingness to engage with the community can bring positive change. This is what Haywood County can expect from candidate Tiffany Collins!
The Power of Voter Choice

Every vote shapes the future of Haywood County. By choosing leaders like Terry and Tiffany, who embody honor and integrity, voters can ensure their voices are truly represented. This means engaging in support for candidates such as Terry and Tiffany, who are dedicated to prioritizing the county’s well-being over personal or political gain.
The upcoming mid-term primary is an opportunity to reject empty promises, lack of transparency, lack of accountability, and elitist politics. Instead, it is a chance to build a stronger, more inclusive community through thoughtful and unselfish leadership.
