The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is an independent, bipartisan commission and exists to help election officials improve the administration of elections. The EAC has the authority to require real, documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) to register for federal elections and is seeking comments on making this critical change to the federal voter registration form.

Right now, the current federal voter registration form relies on an “honor system,” requiring only a checkbox to confirm citizenship without verification. Evidence from states like Pennsylvania and Texas shows thousands of non-citizens have been registered to vote, with some even casting ballots in past elections.
But you can help to change all of this. The EAC has opened a website seeking comments on changing the DPOC requirement, and now more than ever, your voice needs to be heard on this critical election integrity issue.
Please leave your comment today and help pressure the EAC to act swiftly and strengthen the safety, fairness, and security of our elections.

Talking points:
· I strongly support the petition to require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections
· The current honor system is inadequate and leaves federal elections vulnerable for potential fraud
· This change to documentary proof of citizenship will ensure fairness for our federal elections and help to keep them secure
· I consider voting an essential right that is key to the future of our great republic, and this documentary proof of citizenship requirement protects my sacred right to vote
· There are many ways to show documentary proof of citizenship, including: a U.S. passport or passport card, Certificate of Naturalization (N-550/N-570), Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (N-560/N-561), REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/state ID (indicating citizenship), U.S. military or dependent ID, Enhanced Driver’s License/ID, Enhanced Tribal Card, or U.S. Citizen ID Card (I-179/I-197)
· The EAC must act now to secure our federal elections and safeguard the critical right to vote for all Americans

Comment 1
I strongly support America First Legal’s petition to require documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) for voter registration in federal elections. The current “honor system” for verifying citizenship is insufficient to protect the integrity of our elections. Requiring documents like a U.S. passport or passport card, Certificate of Naturalization (N-550/N-570), Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (N-560/N-561), REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/state ID (indicating citizenship), U.S. military or dependent ID, Enhanced Driver’s License/ID, Enhanced Tribal Card, or U.S. Citizen ID Card (I-179/I-197) would ensure that only eligible U.S. citizens can vote, preventing fraud and safeguarding our democracy. The EAC must act to close this vulnerability and uphold the sacred right to vote.
Comment 2
I urge the EAC to adopt America First Legal’s petition to amend the federal voter registration form to require documentary proof of citizenship. Evidence from states like Pennsylvania and Texas shows non-citizens have been registered to vote, undermining public trust. The National Voter Registration Act empowers the EAC to require information to verify eligibility, and documents like a U.S. passport or passport card, Certificate of Naturalization (N-550/N-570), Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (N-560/N-561), REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/state ID (indicating citizenship), U.S. military or dependent ID, Enhanced Driver’s License/ID, Enhanced Tribal Card, or U.S. Citizen ID Card (I-179/I-197) are widely accessible. This change is a commonsense step to ensure only U.S. citizens determine our nation’s future.
Comment 3
I support America First Legal’s petition to require documentary proof of citizenship for federal voter registration. The current checkbox system, relying on attestation without verification, invites skepticism about the fairness of our elections. States like Arizona and Georgia have faced legal barriers to implementing DPOC, leaving our system vulnerable. By amending 11 CFR 9428.4 to require documents such as a U.S. passport or passport card, Certificate of Naturalization (N-550/N-570), Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (N-560/N-561), REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/state ID (indicating citizenship), U.S. military or dependent ID, Enhanced Driver’s License/ID, Enhanced Tribal Card, or U.S. Citizen ID Card (I-179/I-197), the EAC can restore confidence in our electoral process.
Comment 4
The EAC should act on America First Legal’s petition to require documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration. Reports of non-citizens registering and voting in states like Texas highlight the risks of the current system. Requiring a U.S. passport or passport card, Certificate of Naturalization (N-550/N-570), Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (N-560/N-561), REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/state ID (indicating citizenship), U.S. military or dependent ID, Enhanced Driver’s License/ID, Enhanced Tribal Card, or U.S. Citizen ID Card (I-179/I-197) is a straightforward solution to prevent illegal voting. This change would protect the sanctity of the vote and ensure only American citizens shape our elections.
