Resistance Grandmas in the Twilight of Their Political Utopias

Have you heard about a special group of upscale, college-educated white female
elderly women who have emerged as unlikely champions of left wing liberal ideology? According to numerous of my news sources, these women, calling themselves the Resistance Grandmas, include PTA presidents, NPR tote-bag enthusiasts, and retired therapists. All in the twilight of their lives are now engaging as political activists to avoid confronting this reality.

They express near anxiety panic level concerns about current political leadership, viewing figures like Trump as threats to democracy, climate change as a crisis for humanity, and Elon Musk as the anti-Christ. For them, the very essence of democracy is in danger. Beneath this activism, however, lies a deeper emotional struggle, a feeling that not only is their political control slipping away, but also their cherished radical socialist narratives.

These women believed in the promise of The Great Society. They envisioned a future where Roe v. Wade would never be threatened and where their cherished socialist values would be celebrated nationwide. However, today they find themselves in a political landscape that is dismantling everything they naively believed in, while their beloved Democratic Party is leaderless and floundering.
In their confused reality, the Resistance Grandmas cling to what they see as clear-cut moral issues like fascism and racism, which give them a sense of direction amid their perceived chaos. This approach provides them with a framework for confronting their fears and frustrations.

Supporters of radical left-wing causes, they continually speaking out against perceived injustices. Trump's name often appears in their discussions, reinforcing the enemy narrative that helps them process their anger. With protest signs and catchy slogans, they take to the streets and form book clubs that serve as political strategy war committees. Their activism is fueled by anxiety and fear of a world where they feel their values and relevance slipping away resulting from fear-mongering news they digest daily on media outlets that serve as propaganda arms of the socialist Democrat Party.
These women are confront the reality that younger generations, including their own children and grandchildren, are gravitating toward political figures they oppose. This generational gap has become a significant source of their frustration as they realize that nearly 50% of millennials supported Trump. A statistic that shocks Resistance Grandmas who feel their upbringing of their children has not resonated with the values they cherish.

It is a profound irony that the Resistance Grandmas, once anti-Vietnam War advocates who blamed and disrespected the warriors returning home from that tragic war, now voice concerns about issues like white supremacy and are quick to disown those with differing beliefs. The movement toward socialism they worked hard to build is waning, and they are painfully aware of this reality. Their protests, once symbols of empowerment, now serve as mourning rituals for a world they know is slipping away.
Many in this group believe that taking a firm stance on their beliefs shows strength. However, it is motivated by fear rather than genuine confidence. Their intense focus on Trump reveals a deeper sorrow about the changes they see toward conservatism. This passionate engagement comes from an unhealthy attachment to a past that no longer exists.

Change is unavoidable. The Resistance Grandmas are facing the reality that time does not stop, even for them. They grapple daily with the unsettling realization that their perspectives are no longer at the forefront of social discourse. Clad with protest banners and car stickers, they seek validation, convinced they are champions of righteousness, even as they recognize that society is moving forward without them.
Observing the Resistance Grandmas at this crucial stage in their lives is not inspiring, it is sad.
