Last night, the Haywood County Republican Party held its first of many to come, town hall meetings, a meeting that allowed Haywood County Registered Republicans and their guests to hear and interact with Haywood County political leadership.

We were privileged to have Kevin Ensley, the Haywood County Board of Commissioners chairperson, and Brandon Rogers, the Vice Chairperson, as our guest speakers.

Commissioner Ensley spoke of the evolution of the Haywood County Board of Commissioners from a Board controlled by the Democrat Party to a Board now being led by Republican Commissioners. He described the difference this change in party control has had on Haywood County, saying that the change has been very positive and conservative.

Commissioner Ensley and Rogers brought to the attendees' attention that he, Commissioner Rogers, Sheriff Bill Wilke, and other senior Haywood County officials actively responded and met to begin planning life-saving strategies in the early morning hours as Hurricane Helena started to devastate large portions of Haywood County.

Commissioner Ensley addressed the rumors regarding FEMA's lack of involvement and support to Haywood County citizens devastated by that flood.

Commissioner Ensley addressed attendees' questions regarding voting integrity, safety concerns facing Haywood County, such as housing, homelessness, and drug addiction, and the status and costs of construction projects underway in Haywood County.

Further discussed was the need for the Haywood County Republican Party, elected Republican officials, and Haywood County Registered Republicans to unite as one body in opposition to the constitutionally destructive Democrat Party. Although we are beginning to make headway in that unification, it was agreed that much more needed to be done.

  • A first effortless step would be for registered county Republicans to begin recognizing their responsibilities and duty, as patriotic citizens;

  • To be actively involved in the governance of our county, state, and country;

  • To actively begin attending these Town Hall meetings to stay informed and make well-informed decisions;

  • To actively support our Haywood County Republican Party through desperately needed financial donations and by volunteering to help in the Headquarters office, at Haywood County Republican Party sponsored events and activities; and

  • To begin actively supporting our Republican elected officials and future candidates.

These actions on the part of our county Republicans are critical if we are to help President Trump save our Constitution Republic and prepare ourselves for the rapidly approaching mid-term elections. During these elections, we in North Carolina must win back a super majority to override any vetoes imposed by our Democrat governor and expand our Republican majority in the federal House and Senate.

Although the turn-out was not as large as hoped, those who attended were treated to a very informative and interactive first Town Hall meeting.

I thank Commissioners Ensley and Rogers for sacrificing their evening to be present to talk with their constituents and make this Town Hall a success. Thank you both for all you do for Haywood County citizens.

Our next Town Hall meeting will be held on April 10th at 6:30 PM. Please mark your calendar to attend, learn, and socialize with like-minded county neighbors.
