On Wednesday, July 10th, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8281, Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act which will require proof of US citizenship when registering to vote. This measure was strongly opposed by Democrats and the White House despite proof of non-citizens casting ballots in federal elections.
The bill was opposed by 198 Democrats, with only five Democrats voting with Republicans to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. Without this Act, for every illegal alien vote, one legal American Citizen's vote is nullified.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said in a statement. “Over the past four years, Joe Biden has welcomed millions upon millions of illegals into the country knowing that noncitizens only have to check a box to vote in a federal election” further stating, “We have long known this was an intentional effort to turn them into voters, and now the American people know where every member of Congress stands on this critically important issue, House Republicans believe that only Americans should vote in American elections. House Democrats have now proven they believe that illegal aliens should vote in American elections.”
The Democrat members of the House, as well as their propaganda arm, Main Street media, are portraying this Act as just another voter identification law that is already in place requiring voters to show picture identification. They are further insisting that there is absolutely no evidence that any illegal immigrant has voted contrary to federal investigations documenting evidence to the contrary showing that thousands either have done so or attempted to do so, as reported by Stephen Dinan, a reporter with The Washington Times on May 3rd, 2024.
In the position paper, Johnson’s staff also cited an academic study that found non-citizen voter participation “has been large enough to change meaningful election outcomes, including Electoral College votes and Congressional elections.”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Democrat House whip, called the Act an “extreme MAGA Republican voter suppression bill” before inaccurately stating: “There is no evidence that has been presented to suggest that undocumented individuals have been participating in federal elections.”
The White House has issued a veto threat against the legislation. The White House further stated, “This bill would do nothing to safeguard our elections, but it would make it much harder for all eligible Americans to register to vote and increase the risk that eligible voters are purged from voter rolls.”
Under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and welfare offices nationwide must hand over voter registration forms in at least 46 states, applications for driver’s licenses, and federal benefit programs. In filling out the federal form, would-be voters only have to sign a confirmation of their citizenship.
Additionally, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 19 states and Washington, DC, allow non-citizens to receive driver’s licenses, a move that Biden supported as a presidential candidate in 2020.
The Democratic Party has shown time and time again that they want our borders wide open and that they want illegal aliens voting in our elections; we now have proof positive as evidenced by their votes on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act that this is their real position on this matter.
