Flag Day on June 14th often brings to mind festivities, parades, and an outpouring of patriotism. However, this year in Haywood County, Flag Day revealed a complex narrative. It illustrated the contrasts between national pride and protest, showing how diverse opinions can converge in a single day.

On one side, a protest took place outside the courthouse in downtown Waynesville, led by radical Democrats who brought in paid professional protestors from Asheville, advocating for criminal illegal immigrants, continued fraud and abuse of federally funded programs, and continued record-high criminal activity throughout our major Democrat run cities.
They gathered to voice unrealistic concerns over the deportation of illegal immigrants. They pushed for reforms in federal entitlement programs that do nothing to address the abuse, fraud, and waste noted in the federal government and the entitlement programs it oversees. This demonstration featured angry and hateful speeches and signs, all underscored by a pressing call for suppressing the MAGA movement and President Trump's actions to return our Nation to a law-abiding Constitutional Republic.

In stark contrast, a celebration filled with unpaid patriotic Christian conservatives took place at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds. This event aimed to honor the undying American Spirit, President Trump's birthday, and Flag Day by reflecting on the ideals represented by the American flag while fostering a sense of community.
The courthouse protest was animated with chants and slogans, where criticism of the current administration resonated through the air. Hundreds participated, many coming from Asheville, highlighting a critical national debate on immigration policies and governance. According to recent surveys, around 76% of Americans express strong positive feelings about President Trump's immigration reform.

On the other side, the Maggie Valley Festival was nothing short of a celebration of community spirit and pride. Attendees enjoyed a lively car and truck show, where local vehicle enthusiasts showcased their custom designs. The polished chrome and vibrant colors not only displayed craftsmanship but also reflected the joy of community connections.
The atmosphere shifted as local bands took the stage, performing beloved classic songs. People sang along, creating a sense of unity.

Adding to the excitement was a professional wrestling exhibition that captured the crowd's attention. The exhilarating matches drew cheers and laughter, cultivating an atmosphere of spirited fun. Although attendance may not have reached expectations, the enthusiastic participation illustrated the day's enduring legacy.
As we look back on June 14th, it’s essential to understand that the American spirit is not defined solely by large crowds. Instead, it thrives in shared experiences, love, and respect within communities. The true essence of Flag Day lies in our ability to honor and uphold the values that are important to us all, which can be broadly defined as the American Spirit.

To the members of the Haywood County Republican Party, let us all take a moment to reflect on the momentous task that the June 14th "The American Spirit" Planning Committee took upon themselves. Although the turnout numbers were not what was hoped for, each member of that planning committee should feel nothing short of great pride in what they accomplished. To each of you, a heartfelt thank you!

My eyes filled with tears as I read your words explaining the sharp contrast in the events of Flag Day, this past Saturday.
Those of us at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds felt the Spirit of America all around us as we celebrated our Flag, our President, our Veteran's and so much more through our Music on stage, our American cars and trucks and, of course our Wrestlers for Christ.
We had great food and great family fun.
It was a wonderful day that I will never forget.
God bless America.
