LeRoy E. Cossette
LeRoy Cossette is a United States Marine Corps Vietnam combat veteran who served with “A” Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines the unit that became known as “The Walking Dead.” The battalion sustained 629 Marines killed in action and thousands wounded during the Vietnam War, one of the highest casualty rates of any unit in the conflict.
Following his military service, Cossette dedicated more than three decades to serving America’s veterans. He worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for thirty-two years, including eleven years at VA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. During that time, he served eight years as Chief of Policy and Operations and two years as Acting Director of Headquarters Health Administrative Service.
While working in Washington, he collaborated closely with members of Congress from both political parties and with White House staff on veteran policy and healthcare administration. Through this direct exposure to federal governance, he became increasingly aware of the widening gap between elected officials and the citizens they were chosen to represent. His firsthand experience navigating congressional bureaucracy and executive administration revealed systemic dysfunction that he later examines in his book, American Insanity.
After retiring from federal service, Cossette continued serving his community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for nine years. He earned his private pilot license and flew his own single-engine Grumman Cheetah across the country. A second-degree black belt in Taekwondo and nationally certified instructor, he has also served two terms as Township Councilman and co-owned a private business with his eldest son.
Today, Cossette remains active in conservative political advocacy. He serves as a District Captain and Content Writer for Convention of States Action and regularly contributes political commentary and opinion editorials focused on constitutional governance, public accountability, and the preservation of America’s founding principles.
About American Insanity
In American Insanity, LeRoy Cossette presents a direct examination of what he views as the moral, political, and constitutional decline of the United States.
The book explores:
• The growing apathy of American citizens toward government oversight
• The expansion of federal bureaucracy beyond constitutional limits
• The erosion of accountability among elected officials
• The weakening of foundational Judeo-Christian values
• The failures of a two-party political system increasingly detached from its constituents
Drawing from personal experience and political analysis, Cossette contrasts the America of his youth, rooted in constitutional fidelity and civic responsibility with what he believes the nation is becoming today.
